East Haddam is a Connecticut town that is located approximately 20 miles to the east of Meriden, CT and 82 miles to the northeast of North Hempstead. The area of modern-day East Haddam was originally inhabited by Native Americans from the Mohegan, Nehantic, and Wangunk tribe. In around 1669, highways were laid out in the area and the first permanent European settlement was established by the year 1685. East Haddam was incorporated as a town in 1734 and had a population of 9,126 as of 2010.

Shopping and Dining

The Tanger Outlet Center in Westbrook is one of the closest places for shopping near East Haddam real estate. Other shopping centers located nearby include the Clinton Crossing Premium Outlets in Clinton and the Crystal Mall on the Hartford Turnpike in Waterford. For everyday grocery purchases, the Grist Mill Market is located within five minutes on Falls Road in Moodus. There are several pharmacies located in nearby East Hampton, including a Rite Aid and a CVS, both of which are located on East High Street.

Fine dining options in East Haddam include La Vita and the Gelston House, both of which are located on Main Street. Parks and Recreation

There are many large parks located near East Haddam. Just to the south of town, Machimoodus State Park stretches over about 300 acres and is a great place for observing wildlife living along the shores of the Salmon River. Sunrise State Park is adjacent to Machimoodus State Park and can be reached within minutes of homes located in town. Hurd State Park and George Dudley Seymour State Park are two other natural areas located nearby. These parks are found to the northwest of East Haddam along the Connecticut River.

East Haddam Parks & Recreation Department runs and maintains numerous recreational facilities in East Haddam. This department is headquartered on Main Street. Programs runs by the department include swimming lessons, a summer soccer camp, first aid and CPR classes, and day camps for middle school, elementary school, and preschool age children. Facilities run by the department include the Be a Bula Playground on Route 149, the Grange Hall on Town Street, and the Goodspeed Opera House on Main Street.

This district includes the Nathan Hale-Ray High School, the Nathan Hale-Ray Middle School, and the East Haddam Elementary School. The East Haddam Public School System has a student enrollment of around 1,420 and employes approximately 121 teachers.

In addition to public schools in the area, young residents of East Haddam real estate also have the option of attending private school at Franklin Academy, which is located on River Road.

Middlesex Hospital in Middlesex is one of the main sources of healthcare services located near East Haddam. One is located 14 miles away on Boston Post Road in Old Saybrook and the other is located about 20 miles away on Water Street in New London. Goodspeed Airport is a small airport located in East Haddam about a mile from the town's central business district.
